The 2014 Toyota Camry is a terrific family car with styling that doesn’t push the envelope. Although somewhat dull, its appearance won’t offend most car buyers in this segment. Its angular design doesn’t compromise quality or features in its attempt to remain competitive.
It offers roomy interior dimensions coupled with sculpted seats and soft touch trim to add an expensive feel to its smooth, quite, and comfortable ride. Although its simplistic design won’t make the enthusiasts heart skip a beat, it still has plenty to offer with features that vary widely between trim levels.
The 2014 Camry is offered in four trim levels- L, LE, SE and XLE. If you’re fuel conscious, a Hybrid variant is also available in two trim levels- LE and XLE.
Standard features worth mentioning on the base L include 16-inch steel wheels, power windows and mirrors, Bluetooth® and a six-speaker sound system with a 6.1-inch color touchscreen display, auxiliary audio input jack and a USB/iPod® user interface. Opting for the LE will add additional features like auto on/off headlights, power door locks and steering-wheel mounted audio controls.
Stepping up to the midlevel SE will get you 17-inch alloy wheels, fog lamps, heated mirrors, a sport-tuned suspension and a leather wrapped steering wheel with paddle shifters. Options include a sunroof, an eight-way power adjustable driver’s seat, leather upholstery, navigation and an Entune™ entertainment system that allows you to browse Pandora®, real time traffic , weather, fuel prices, sports, and stocks. Standard features on SE’s equipped with the available V6 engine get 18-inch alloy wheels, push-button start and the optional features (but deletes the sunroof) found on the standard SE.
Choose the XLE trim level and you’ll get everything from the SE plus its optional items. You’ll also get dual-zone automatic climate control. XLE V6 models gain additional equipment like leather seating surfaces, a rearview camera, satellite radio and an auto-dimming rearview mirror just to name a few.
The 2014 Camry Hybrids are similarly equipped to it non-hybrid counterparts. It features an overhauled version of Toyota’s gas-electric powertrain. Hybrid’s use a 2.5 liter 4-cylinder engine coupled with a water cooling gas recirculation system to reduce its emissions and increase maximum mpg.
Prices for the 2014 Toyota Camry range from $22,235 for the entry L model to $24,885 for the XLE variant no including options and accessories. The Hybrids top price is also fairly reasonable at $27,670. Whichever one you choose you can’t do wrong as it one of those most affordable cars in its segment.
Upscale interior; hybrid MPG, decent V6 power
6-Cylinder MPG lags behind others; drab styling; boring ride
