Following the CT6, Cadillac’s replacement for the SRX will be the next model to adopt the brand’s new naming strategy where sedans and coupes all feature a “CT” in their names and the high-riding models get an “XT”. The names also feature a number corresponding with the positioning in the lineup of whichever vehicle they’re attached to.
The SRX replacement will be called an XT5 and will be going on sale next year, as a 2017 model. A completely undisguised XT5 was spotted in Manhattan back in June but Cadillac has been reluctant to divulge any details. That will be changing soon, though.
As Autoblog reports, Cadillac will be releasing preliminary details on the XT5 this week and will be presenting the vehicle in public for the first time at the Dubai Motor Show, which opens its doors to the media on November 10. The vehicle will then be shown at the Los Angeles Auto Show one week later.
The little information we have on the XT5 is that it will be built at General Motors Company’s [NYSE:GM] Spring Hill plant in Tennessee. The outgoing SRX is sourced from a plant in Mexico. Engines will likely include four- and six-cylinder units.
Though yet to be confirmed, the XT5’s platform is thought to be a new modular design code-named C1XX. This is the high-riding version of the E2XX platform that debuted in the 2016 Chevrolet Malibu, and is destined to replace GM’s current Theta and Lambda designs.
Stay tuned for an update.
